BALTIMORE--Former UMBC track and field standout and NCAA champion Cleopatra Borel, who was named Trinidad and Tobago’s 2010 Sportswoman of the Year, is preparing for the 2011 World Track and Field Championships, which will be held Aug. 27-Sept. 4 in Daegu, South Korea.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Seniors Michael Christmas (Invercargill, New Zealand/James Hargest College), Dominic Devaud (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and Sara Parkinson (Chorley, England/Loughborough University) have been named to the America East Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Teams, the conference announced Wednesday.

PRINCETON, N.J.—Seniors Michael Christmas (Invercargill, New Zealand/James Hargest College) and Sara Parkinson (Chorley, England/Loughborough University) broke school records as the UMBC men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the IC4A/ECAC Championships this weekend in Princeton, N.J. The men finished 24th with 14 points.

BALTIMORE—The UMBC men’s and women’s track and field teams concluded action at the 2011 America East Outdoor Championships Sunday at UMBC Stadium, with the men finishing fourth with 97.5 points, while the women took seventh with 75 points.

Track and Field Hosts 2011 America East Outdoor Championships This Weekend
BALTIMORE—The UMBC men’s and women’s track and field teams host the 2011 America East Outdoor Championships at UMBC Stadium this Saturday and Sunday, the first time since the 2007 conference meet. Tickets for each day of action are $7 for adults, $3 for youth (ages 15 and under) and $2 for students. The first 50 students each day will receive free admission.

Parkinson Breaks UMBC 5,000-Meter Run Record as Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season at Colonial Relays
WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—Senior Sara Parkinson (Chorley, England/Loughborough University) broke the school record in the women’s 5,000-meter run as the UMBC track and field teams opened the 2011 outdoor season at the Colonial Relays this weekend. The men finished 14th with 29 points, while the women took 20th with 16 points.

Walker Breaks School Record in Pole Vault at Terrapin Indoor Invitational
LANDOVER, Md.--Junior Laura Walker (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) broke the school record in the pole vault as the women's track and field team finished seventh at the Terrapin Indoor Invitational Saturday. The women finished with 29 points, while the men took home the crown with 105 points.

NEW YORK--Three ECAC/IC4A qualifying times and two golds highlighted the UMBC men's and women's track and field performance at the NYRR Saturday Night at the Armory in New York City. The men finished fifth with 61 points, while the women placed 10th with 17 points.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--The UMBC men's and women's track and field teams swept the America East weekly awards to start the 2011 year, with sophomore Trae Proctor (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) and freshman Mo Drammeh (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) taking home Male Track and Male Field Performers of the Week, while freshman Kirsten Jones (Brentwood, Tenn./M.L.K. Magnet) and sophomore Amanda Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) winning Female Track and Female Field Performers of the week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Track and Field Opens 2010-11 Indoor Season with Three Wins at Bison Opener
LEWISBURG, Md.--The UMBC men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams began their 2010-11 season at the Bison Opener Saturday. Sophomore Amanda Deller won the women’s weight throw (16.50m) and earned silver in the shot put (13.98m), while sophomore TJ Cowing won the men’s 1-mile run in 4:26.56 and freshman Mo Drammeh won the men’s high jump with a leap of 2.01m.
