Women's Tennis Blanks Morgan State, 7-0
Returning to action for the first time since Jan. 23, the UMBC women’s tennis team (3-1) won its third straight match, defeating local rival Morgan State, 7-0, in a match played at Baltimore Fitness & Tennis Center in Pikesville, Maryland.
UMBC swept the three doubles matches, paced by the No. 2 Brazilian duo of Lorena Valente/Barbara Couto, who blanked their opponents, 8-0. The Retrievers did not drop a set in singles play, with Valente (Florianopolis, Brazil) defeating Nekesa Thomas, 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 slot and Couto (Teresopolis, Brazil) shutting out Sydnee Collins at the No. 6 slot, 6-0, 6-0.
UMBC is slated to take on the Richmond Spiders in Richmond, Va. on Saturday, Feb. 20.
