Women's Tennis Edges James Madison, 4-3

Williamsburg, Va.—The UMBC women’s tennis team evened its record at 1-1 on the season as they edged James Madison (0-2), 4-3, in a match played at The College of William & Mary.

UMBC swept the doubles competition, and took three of six singles matches. Senior Alice Chen (North Potomac, Md.) and sophomore Carmen Jackman (Silver Spring, Md.) combined to defeat the duo of Kathernine Bulling/Kinsey Pate, 8-6. Chen outlasted Bulling, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, and Jackman defeated Pate, 6-2, 7-6 (5), at No. singles.

The other singles winner for UMBC was No. 6 Barbara Couto (Teresopolis, Brazil), who defeated Kristin Nimitz, 6-2, 7-5.

UMBC travels to Pittsburgh to take on Duquesne next Saturday, Jan. 23.
