Georgetown Comes to Call on Women's Tennis Wednesday Afternoon

BALTIMORE – The UMBC women's tennis team plays is penultimate home match of the 2014 season when the Retrievers welcome Georgetown to the Retriever Tennis Complex on Wednesday, April 9. The opening serves are set to take place at 2:00 p.m.

UMBC competed for the first time since March 21 when the Retrievers took on a very good Xavier squad on April 5. The match marked the first spring action for sophomore Shannon Cleary, (Little Bay, NSW, Australia/Randwick),  who was edged, 7-6, in a second set tie-breaker.  The Retrievers are 6-8 on the season. After this match, UMBC plays at Binghamton on April 12 and returns home to face Coppin State on April 13.

The Georgetown women's tennis team (8-9, 2-2 BIG EAST) dropped a non-conference match on Saturday at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex to the Connecticut Huskies (6-11) on Georgetown's campus, 4-3. GU freshman Victoire Saperstein continued to win in the No. 1 postion for the Hoyas with a straight-set, 6-4, 6-4 victory over UConn's Srna Stosljevic.
