Cambridge, Mass-- For the first time in its ten-year America East Conference history, UMBC will host the league's men's and women's tennis championships. The championships will take place at the UMBC Tennis Complex on Fri.-Sun, April 26-28.
The action gets underway on Friday at 10:00 a.m. on the women's side with an opening round match between the No. 4 and the No. 5-seeded squads. Then, the men take the court with semifinal matches scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. (No. 2 vs. No. 3) and 3:30 p.m. (No. 1 vs. No. 4).
Saturday is Ladies' Day as the women's semifinals will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. (No. 1 seed vs. Winner of Opening Round match) and 2:00 p.m. (No. 2 vs. No. 3).
The championship matches will commence on Sunday. The men's title match begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by the women at 2:00 p.m.
The competing America East teams on the men's side are Binghamton, Hartford, Stony Brook and host UMBC. On the women's side, Albany, Binghamton, Hartford, Stony Brook and UMBC will compete for the title.
The seedings will be announced on Wednesday, April 24.
The Binghamton men's and Stony Brook women's tennis teams took home the hardware in 2012. Binghamton defeated UMBC, 4-1 to capture its fifth straight America East crown and ninth in the last 11 years. In a thrilling finish, Stony Brook downed the UMBC women 4-2 to win the program's first conference crown.
The UMBC Tennis Complex features six newly-surfaced, lighted courts and is located on campus, adjacent to the RAC Arena.
