Four Seniors Earn Awards at Swimming and Diving's End of the Year Banquet
Swimming and Diving seniors at the Graduation Breakfast
The UMBC menís and womenís swimming and diving teams announced their team awards at its annual end of the year banquet, held at UMBCís Skylight Room.
Seniors Rebecca Godwin and Sarah Ryan were named the Nikki Blakely Unsung Hero award winners. The Mikki Blakely unsung hero award is presented to a member or members of the womenís swimming and diving team who may not win all of her races, but contributes to the team in other ways, by exhibiting great determination, heart and team spirit. In honor of their daughter, the Blakely family donates $500 for the award for post-graduate endeavors. The menís Unsung Hero award winners were seniors Kregg Deery and Keilan Freeman.
Sophomore Amy Fay earned the womenís Most Improved Athlete after winning the 500-yard freestyle at the America East Championships and earning bronze in the mile with the second-fastest time in school history (16:54.76).
On the menís side, freshman Patrick Husson was named the teamís Most Improved Athlete after walking on to the team in the fall and becoming one of the squadís best breaststrokers, including the fifth-fastest 200 in school history (2:03.27).
