Retriever Swimmers Sweep America East Weekly Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Seniors Tereza Kaplanova (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium J.G. Jankovskeho) and Matt Mattingly (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) have been named America East Female and Male Swimmers of the Week, for the week ending Oct. 18, as announced by the conference Tuesday.

 

Posting two wins and two second-place finishes, Kaplanova helped lead the UMBC women’s squad over Rider. At last year’s conference championship, Kaplanova claimed bronze in the 200 breast, but on Saturday she touched first in a time of 2:26.77. She also won the 200 IM in 2:12.34. Kaplanova’s two second-place finishes came in the 100 back and the 200 medley relay.

 

Mattingly led UMBC to a win over Rider on Saturday, posting two individual wins and one relay victory. The senior won the 200 IM, posting a time of 1:57.38, while also finishing first in the 100 breast in 58.67. He was also part of the 200 medley relay team that placed first in 1:35.80.
