UMBC Swimming and Diving Teams Picked to Finish Second in America East Preseason Poll

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were both picked to finish second in the America East pre-season poll, as announced by the conference Tuesday. In both polls, the Retrievers received one point less than Boston University.
In the women's poll, the Retrievers, who finished second to the Terriers in 2009, received three first place votes and 33 total points and Boston U received 34 points and the four remaining first place votes. Vermont was picked to finish third with 24 points and New Hampshire was right behind in fourth with 23 points. Stony Brook (15), Binghamton (11) and Maine (7) rounded out the seven-team poll.
On the men's side, UMBC, who has won an 12 straight conference titles including an unprecedented six consecutive America East Championships, received two first place votes and 14 total points, while Boston U collected 15 points and three first place votes. Binghamton (10), Stony Brook (7) and Maine (4) rounded out the five-team poll.
The Retrievers open their 2009-10 season with a non-scored meet at Bucknell Sunday at 1 p.m
