Swimming and Diving Heads to George Mason Invitational

BALTIMORE - After a few weeks off from the pool, the UMBC swimming and diving teams will head to Fairfax, Va. as they take part in the annual Patriot Invitational, hosted by George Mason University, from November 15 to November 17. Last year, the men finished fifth and the women finished seventh in the event. Junior Ilia Rattsev (Moscow, Russia) broke the Patriot Invitational in the 100 free with a time of 44.81.

When: Thursday, Nov. 15 through Saturday, Nov. 17 – Prelims at 10 a.m., Diving at 1 p.m., finals at 6 p.m. each day

LAST TIME OUT FOR UMBC

The Retrievers last competed in the pool on October 25 as they split a dual meet with the Towson Tigers. The men defeated the Tigers, 169-131, while the women fell, 174-121.

Alexander Gliese (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) led the men with two individual victories in the 100 back (51.01) and 200 back (1:49.91), while also finishing second in the 200 IM (1:55.07).  Rattsev and Kai Wisner (Syrcause, N.Y.) each finished the day with two first place finishes. On the day, the men finished with 31 top-five finishes.

On the women's side, Hania Moro (New Cairo, Egypt) led the team with three individual wins in the 200 free (1:51.99), 500 free (5:01.71), and 1000 free (10:71.11). Overall, the women earned 30 top-five finishes.

On the boards, Elijah Wright (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) swept the men's diving events, earning a score of 281.85 in the 1 meter and a score of 288.52 in the 3 meter. On the women's side, Abby Biddulph (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) finished third in the 3 meter dive and Devin Gromen (Crofton, Md./Arundel) finished fourth in the 1 meter.

Gliese and Wright were both honored as America East Male Performers of the Week for their performances against Towson.
