CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC sophomore diver Corinna Darelius (Rye, N.Y./Rye) has been named the America East Diver of the Week for the third time this season, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Darelius won the 1-meter diving competition this past weekend as UMBC competed against East Carolina and Catawba College in Greenville, N.C. She scored 254.02 to win the event for the third time during the 2013-14 season and bring her overall season win total up to five. In addition, Darelius scored 266.93 in taking fourth-place on the 3-meter board.
Darelius also garnered the weekly conference award on Nov. 26, 2013 and Jan. 14 after winning it twice as a freshman. She has already qualified for the NCAA Zones meet for the second straight season after scoring a career-best 271.85 in a 1-meter competition on Jan. 4 in Coral Springs, Fla.
In total, the UMBC swimming and diving program has gained 14 conference weekly awards this season. Darelius leads the women, owning three America East Diving accolades, and senior Mohamed Hussein (Cairo, Egypt/Victory College) paces the men after collecting three Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) honors so far.
UMBC finished its dual meet season with the competition in North Carolina last Saturday and now prepares for its championships season. The women will compete at the four-day America East meet from Feb. 13-16 while the men will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. for the CCSA meet from Feb. 19-22.
