Tadena Earns First America East Weekly Honor of the Year

America East Release

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After winning three individual events this past weekend, UMBC senior swimmer Talor Tadena (Orangevale, Calif./Bella Vista) has been named the America East Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Tadena led the way for the Retriever women this past weekend as UMBC was edged in a tough dual meet at Old Dominion, 155-145.  The senior captured three individual events, to bring her season total up to seven, while also anchoring the 400 free relay to a win.

After starting the meet with her first win of the year in the 100-yd. breaststroke (1:05.01), Tadena captured the 100 free event for the third time this season with a season-best time of 51.94.  The versatile senior then capped her meet by winning the 100 fly in a time of 57.12, also a season-best, and anchoring the victorious relay.

The award is the first for the UMBC women's squad this season, but the fifth overall for the swimming and diving program.  Senior Mohamed Hussein (Cairo, Egypt/Victory College) has garnered CCSA Swimmer of the Week honors twice while classmate Tim Perkins (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) has twice earned CCSA Diver of the Week accolades.

The UMBC swimming and diving teams have the next two weekends away from competition before traveling to George Mason for the three-day Patriot Invitational, which begins on Nov. 21.
