Bean Places 22nd in Women’s 1-Meter, Eckhoff Takes 24th in Men’s 3-Meter on Day Two of NCAA Zone “A” Diving
CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – UMBC sophomore Katie Bean (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) finished 22nd in the women’s 1-meter competition and senior Andrew Eckhoff (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) placed 24th in the men’s 3-meter event, on Day Two of the NCAA Zone “A” Diving Meet at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – UMBC senior diver Andrew Eckhoff (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) placed 23rd in the men’s 1-meter diving competition, while sophomore Katie Bean (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) and freshman Corinna Darelius (Rye, N.Y./Rye) both finished in the top-30 for the women’s 3-meter event, Friday at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center on Day One of the NCAA Zone “A” Diving meet.

Seven Retrievers Named to America East Swimming and Diving All-Academic Team
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Seven members of the UMBC swimming and diving teams, four men and three women, were named to the America East All-Academic Team, the conference office announced on Monday evening. The seven athletes are the most for any school in the conference.

BALTIMORE – Senior captain Andrew Eckhoff (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and sophomore Ryan Green (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) of the UMBC men’s swimming and diving team, as well as sophomore Katie Bean (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) and freshman Corinna Darelius (Rye, N.Y./Rye) of the women’s squad will head to Christiansburg, Va. for the 2013 NCAA Zone “A” Diving meet.

Barron and Hussein Victorious on Second Day of ECAC Championships
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC senior Claire Barron (Lowestoft, England/Benjamin Britten/New Orleans) won the 100-yd. breaststroke and junior Mohamed Hussein (Cairo, Egypt/Victory College) won the 200-yd. freestyle as the Retrievers competed on the second day of the ECAC Championships, Saturday at Blodgett Pool at Harvard University.

SOMERS, Wis. – Both the UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are ranked in the Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com Top-25 for the first time in school history, the website announced on Tuesday afternoon.

ORONO, Maine – The UMBC men’s swimming and diving team claimed its ninth America East title since joining the conference in 2003-04, and 15th total conference championship, Sunday evening at the Stanley M. Wallace Pool at the University of Maine.

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Three UMBC divers – sophomores Ryan Green (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and Katie Bean (Mechnicsville, Va./Atlee) and freshman Corinna Darelius (Rye, N.Y./Rye) – qualified for the NCAA Zones diving meet while competing against West Virginia on the team’s trip to Florida over winter break. The Zones diving competition will take place from Mar. 14-17 at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

Men Finish in Third, Women in Fifth at Patriot Invitational
FAIRFAX, Va. – The UMBC swimming and diving teams completed the first half of their 2012-13 schedules with the third and final day of the Patriot Invitational, Saturday at George Mason. The men’s team finished the invitational in third place with 681.5 points while the women placed fifth overall with 430 points.

Men’s Swimming and Diving Defeats Navy; Women Fall to Mids
BALTIMORE – The 400-yd. free relay team of sophomore Lauri Kaei (Harjumaa, Estonia/Tallinn Secondary Science), junior Evan Carey (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island), and seniors Steve Gallagher (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and Mohamed Hussein (Cairo, Egypt/Victory College) won going away to clinch the meet victory as the UMBC men’s swimming and diving team downed Navy, 156-144, Friday evening at the UMBC Aquatic Complex. The UMBC women’s team lost a close decision to the Mids, falling 164-136, despite freshman Corinna Darelius (Rye, N.Y./Rye) sweeping the diving events.

BALTIMORE – The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each defeated Rider, but the women lost to James Madison, Saturday afternoon at the UMBC Aquatic Complex. The Retriever men defeated the Broncs, 171-114, and the women won 167-117, but lost to the Dukes 175-124.
