Swimming and Diving Hosts America East Rival Boston University Saturday

BALTIMORE—UMBC and Boston University, the premier America East swimming and diving programs, will face off in a first-ever dual meet at the UMBC Natatorium Saturday at 1 p.m. The meet will be broadcast live on UMBCRetrievers.tv and results will be posted on UMBC Dawg Blog.

 

On the men’s side, UMBC has won an unprecedented seven consecutive conference crowns, while the Terriers have won three times and have been second six, including each of the last three years. On the women’s side, Boston U. has the most conference championships with six titles in addition to six second-place finishes, while the Retriever women have won two titles and been runners-up four times. The two schools account for the last four America East Champions, as UMBC won in 2007 and 2008, while BU is the two-time defending champion.

 

The Retriever men have been led by senior Eric Jones and freshmen Johan Rohtla, who have each been named America East Male Swimmer of the Week so far this season. On the women’s side, sophomore Jennifer Kotonias has picked up seven individual wins this season and the 200 medley relay team of junior Kathryn Moorby, freshman Talor Tadena, senior Sarah Ryan and junior Abbey McKenney broke the UMBC Natatorium record against Rider in 1:46.70.

 

The broadcast on UMBCRetrievers.tv is available for $4.95 and features, three camera angles, replays of close finishes, every moment of swimming action and a good portion of the diving performances.
