UMBC Soccer Earns NSCAA Team Academic Award
BALTIMORE – The UMBC soccer teams were one of 150 schools that had both of their men’s and women’s program recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for the 2011-12 College Team Academic Award, as announced by the NSCAA on Thursday.
“It is a great honor to be recognized for this award,” women’s soccer head coach Leslie Wray said. “I am so proud of the work these young women do on and off the field. It is good to see they are given credit for their hard work.”
A total of 723 college soccer teams (221 men and 502 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, to earn the honor. The UMBC women’s team posted an overall GPA of 3.21, while the men finished with a 3.07.
“I am just as proud of our team’s accomplishments in the classroom as I am of our play on the field,” men’s soccer head coach Pete Caringi said. “Our guys have worked very hard academically and have gotten the results.”
