Kadet Named America East Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week
Lauren Kadet made 13 saves in two games last week.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—UMBC freshman goalkeeper Lauren Kadet (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) was named America East Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sept. 26, the conference announced Monday.
Kadet posted her first career shutout in UMBC’s 2-0 win at Vermont in the America East opener on Sunday, making eight saves between the pipes in her first career victory, which snapped the Retrievers’ eight-game winless streak. It was the first shutout by a Retriever freshman since Catie Bukowski blanked Albany on Oct. 9, 2005, and the first shutout for UMBC since a 1-0 win over Hartford on Oct. 11, 2009. Earlier in the week, she stopped five shots in a 2-1 overtime loss at Loyola.
Kadet finished the week with a 0.99 goals-against average, an .867 save percentage and 13 saves. She leads the America East with 6.89 saves per game and ranks third with an .805 save percentage.
Kadet is the second Retriever to be named Rookie of the Week this season, as forward Amy Savage (Ottawa, Ontario/Sir Wilfrid Laurier) garnered the honor on Sept. 13, marking the first time that two Retrievers have earned the award since Ashley Singer and Morgan Warrington in 2007. In addition, senior midfielder Sandra Vacarino (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) was tabbed the conference’s Player of the Week on Aug. 30, marking the first time that three Retrievers have been honored with America East weekly women’s soccer awards since 2003, UMBC’s first year in the conference, when Lori Quintavalle earned a Player of the Week nod and Amanda DiCarlo and Christie Sikorski were both named Rookies of the Week.
Kadet and the Retrievers return home on Thursday to host defending America East champion Boston University at 4 p.m.
