SACRED HEART EDGES WOMEN'S SOCCER, 1-0
10/4/2002
SACRED HEART 1, UMBC 0Baltimore, MD-Sacred Heart junior forward Jill Bizeau scored in the 51st minute as the Pioneers (5-3-1, 1-1-1 NEC) held off UMBC (3-7, 0-3 NEC), 1-0, in a key league contest. Bizeau converted from just inside the box, beating UMBC netminder Robin Babaris just inside the left post. Linemate Paula Pineda received the assist after sending the ball from the right wing to the center of the field to her waiting teammate. UMBC, outshot 7-1 in the first 55 minutes, rallied but could not get the game-tying goal. The Retrievers' best chance came with 26 minutes to play, when Caitlin Kinsella's blast headed for the left corner of the net was denied by a diving Leslie Konsig in the Pioneer net. UMBC had six corners in the second half, with Kristin English pushing a shot from close range just wide in the late stages. Sacred Heart has now won three straight, while the Retrievers have dropped three in a row. AGATESacred Heart 1, UMBC 0Scoring: S-Jill Bizeau (Paula Pineda) 51:46.
