Women’s Soccer Blanked by Penn, 3-0

The teams battled to a scoreless tie at the half, but Penn took over in the second period, outshooting the Retrievers, 20-1.

Nearly 11 minutes later, the ball deflected to Penn forward Marin McDermott off a UMBC defender, and McDermott’s point-blank shot from the center of the box found the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage.
McDermott struck again in the 71st minute when she collected a pass from forward Alex Dayneka in front of the goal and shot the ball past Van Vlerah.
Van Vlerah finished with six saves in the game, while Penn goalie Caroline Williams stopped three shots.
