BALTIMORE—Following a season-opening four-game road trip and a nearly two-week hiatus, the UMBC women’s soccer team (0-4-0) hosts George Washington (2-3-1) Friday evening in the Retrievers’ home opener. With kick-off set for 7 p.m., the game will be played under the lights of UMBC Stadium. Fans who can’t make it to the game can watch live at UMBCRetrievers.tv. This will be the first-ever soccer boradcast in the Retrievers' video streaming package.

Last Time Out: After battling the Retrievers to a scoreless draw for 87 minutes, host Towson finally cracked the scoreboard with three minutes remaining and held on for a 1-0 victory on Sept. 6. Sophomore goalie Mo Van Vlerah (Ijamsville, Md./Northwest) recorded a season-high seven saves for the second straight game.

On the Colonials: George Washington is 2-3-1 this season and coming off a 3-2 double-overtime loss to Robert Morris University last Friday… Senior midfielder Brittany Eger leads the Colonials in scoring with three goals and six points… Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Rowe has tallied 33 saves and boasts a 1.08 goals-against average and .825 save percentage through six games… The Colonials were picked to finish 10th in the Atlantic 10 preseason coaches’ poll after going 8-11-0 overall in 2008.

The Series: George Washington leads the all-time series with the Retrievers, 9-1-0. The teams last met in 2006, a 1-0 victory for the Colonials in Baltimore. UMBC’s lone win, a 1-0 decision, occurred in 2005 in Washington, D.C.

Dawg Bites: Van Vlerah has recorded 24 saves in the first four games of the season, including back-to-back seven-save games against Bucknell and Towson… She has played all 360 minutes between the pipes and ranks fifth in the America East with 6.0 saves per game… Freshman forward Rachel McKee (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) leads the Retrievers with six shots, including five on goal.

Up Next: The Retrievers have a busy schedule ahead with six games in 13 days, beginning with a trip to regional rival George Mason on Sept. 22. The Patriots are ranked ninth in the South Atlantic Region in the latest NSCAA poll.
