Toni DiRenzo is the third Retriever in two years to earn All-Rookie honors.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.UMBC freshman defender Toni DiRenzo (Mohnton, Pa./Twin Valley) was named to the America East Women’s Soccer All-Rookie Team, the conference announced Wednesday.

DiRenzo started all 19 games during her first collegiate campaign, the only Retriever freshman to do so, and she took one shot on the season. She is the third UMBC player in two years to earn All-Rookie status, as teammates Morgan Warrington and Ashley Singer garnered the accolades last season.

Stony Brook’s Colleen McKenna was tabbed America East Rookie of the Year.

Other award winners included Striker of the Year Michelle Sheehan from New Hampshire, Midfielder of the Year Marisha Schumacher-Hodge and Defender of the Year Casey Brown, both from Boston University, and Goalkeeper of the Year Marissa Viola from Stony Brook. Boston University also took home the Coaching Staff of the Year after the Terriers locked up the America East regular-season title with a perfect league record.

The Retrievers concluded their season on Sunday with a thrilling 4-3 victory at Albany.
