Retrievers Drop 3-0 Decision to Drexel in Women’s Soccer
Lindsay broke a scoreless tie in the 33rd minute when she received a through ball on the right side from midfielder Aleka Yiantos, which she shot across the goal and into the bottom-left corner of the net.
The Dragons took the 1-0 lead into halftime before Yiantos got into the scoring column early in the 56th minute when she ran along the right side and placed her shot into the upper-left corner. Forward Daria Bialik was credited with the assist.
Seven minutes later, Drexel was awarded a corner kick, which midfielder Carly Snyder sent to midfielder Michelle Donnelly, who passed it to Lindsay in front of the net. Lindsay’s shot ricocheted off UMBC freshman goalie Mo Van Vlerah’s (Boyds, Md./Northwest) hand and into the bottom-right corner.
Van Vlerah recorded two saves in 72:45 of action before being relieved by senior Catie Bukowski (Odenton, Md./Arundel/South Carolina), who made one save in the final 17:15 of play. Drexel keeper Kaitlin Bond stopped two shots in 63 minutes, while Nicole Sinclair played the final 27 minutes and made one save for the Dragons.
Drexel outshot UMBC, 12-9, and held an 11-1 advantage on corner kicks, including 9-1 in the first half.
The Retrievers return to action on Friday, when they hit the road to take on Elon at 7 p.m.
