Morgan Warrington Earns America East Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week

10/29/2007

Morgan Warrington scored two goals and added an assist in three games last week.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—UMBC freshman defender Morgan Warrington (Magnolia, Del./St. Thomas Moore Prep) was named America East Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week for the week ending Oct. 28, the conference announced Monday. Warrington becomes the second Retriever in as many weeks to win the award, joining forward Ashley Singer (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood). It also marks the first conference honor of Warrington’s career.

Warrington led the Retrievers with two goals, five points and eight shots in three games last week. She scored what proved to be the game-winner against Albany on Sunday, taking a long run up the left side and making a sliding shot that slipped past the goalie in the 18th minute. She also added an assist on the first goal of the game in the sixth minute.

Earlier in the week, Warrington scored UMBC’s lone goal against Binghamton on Thursday. In addition, she has both of UMBC’s shots on goal in a loss to Pennsylvania on Tuesday.

Warrington finished the season ranked second on the team with three goals and seven points.

The Retrievers (3-13-2, 2-6-0 America East) concluded the 2007 season with a 3-1 victory over Albany on Sunday.
