BOSTON—The UMBC women’s soccer team (1-11-2, 0-5-0 America East) dropped its sixth straight decision, 2-0, to America East rival Boston University (7-5-2, 4-0-0 America East) Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

The Terriers took an early lead when Farrell McClernon sent a perfect cross into the box that Marisha Schumacher-Hodge one-timed into the low corner in the fifth minute.

Boston increased its lead when McClernon slid the ball to an on-rushing Stephanie Croghan, who fought off a defender and stripped UMBC goalie Christine Bacinski (Hampstead, Md./Mount de Sales) of the ball to slot it into the near lower corner in the 16th minute.

The Retrievers’ best chance came in the 54th minute when senior forward Jessica Young (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) came sprinting into the box, but Terrier goalkeeper Christina Reuter made a point-blank save to preserve the shutout.

In the 83rd minute, UMBC freshman forward Meagan Rivera (Fairport, N.Y./Penfield) made one last push to get on the scoreboard, but her strike went wide right.

Bacinski made three saves in 90 minutes while Reuter posted two stops.

The Terriers out-shot the Retrievers, 13-4, and held a 9-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Boston U. extended its unbeaten streak to five games, while the Retrievers’ scoring drought increased to more than 575 minutes dating to Sept. 21 at Sacred Heart.

The Retrievers return to action next Sunday, Oct. 21, when they host America East rival Vermont at 1 p.m. at UMBC Soccer Stadium.
