Women’s Soccer Continues America East Play vs. Hartford, at Boston U.

BALTIMORE- The UMBC women’s soccer team (1-9-2, 0-3-0 AEC) continues America East play, hosting Hartford (3-5-3, 1-0-1 AEC) on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at UMBC Soccer Stadium. The Retrievers travel to Boston University (5-5-2, 2-0-0 AEC) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Looking Back: The Retrievers lost at home, 2-0, to New Hampshire on Oct. 4. UMBC lost at Maine, 1-0 in overtime, on Sunday afternoon. Junior goalkeeper Christine Bacinski (Hampstead, Md./Mount de Sales) made eight saves in the loss.
On the Hawks: Hartford snapped a three-game winless streak, defeating Binghamton, 2-0, in Vestal, N.Y. Midfielders Michelle Orelli and Kacey Busque scored for the Hawks. Orelli was named America East Rookie of the Week on Oct. 9.
Last time vs. the Hawks: The Retrievers lost at Hartford, 5-0, on Oct. 5, 2006.
All-Time vs. the Hawks: The Retrievers are 1-3-0 all-time against Hartford, with the only victory coming in 2005 in Baltimore, Md.
On the Terriers: Boston U. tied Dartmouth, 1-1 in double overtime, in Boston, Mass. The Terriers are currently ranked 13th in Northeast region. Goalkeeper Janie Reilly has recorded three shutouts. Boston U. were picked to win the America East in the pre-season poll.
Last time vs. the Terriers: The Retrievers lost at home, 3-0, to Boston U. on Oct. 19, 2006.
All-Time vs. the Terriers: The Retrievers are 0-4-0 all-time against Boston U. dating back to 2003, when UMBC entered the America East.
Beasts in the America East: Junior goalkeeper Catie Bukowski (Odenton, Md./Arundel/South Carolina) is seventh in the America East in saves with 36. Junior goalkeeper Christine Bacinski is eighth with 30. Bukowski is also eighth in goals against average with 1.41 goals allowed per game. Freshman forward Ashley Singer is sixth in shots with 34 and is tied for seventh in goals with three.
As a team, the Retrievers are second in the America East in shots with 156, fifth in goals with 10 and are currently tied for fifth in points with 27.
Fabulous Freshmen: Nine out of the 10 Retriever goals this season have been scored by freshmen. Forward Ashley Singer leads the team with three goals. Forwards Sandra Vacarino (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) and midfielder Caitlyn Slattery (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) each have two goals, while forward Meagan Rivera (Fairport, N.Y./Penfield) and defender Morgan Warrington (Magnolia, Del./St. Thomas More Academy) have added one.
Moving Up the Ranks: Senior forward Jessica Young (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) is fifth place all-time at UMBC with 23 career goals scored. She is also tied for sixth all-time with 55 career points.
