Women’s Soccer Blanked By Conference Foe Stony Brook, 1-0
Baltimore, Md.—The UMBC women’s soccer team (4-7-1, 0-2-0 AEC) dropped its second America East Conference game, 1-0, to Stony Brook University (7-4-1, 2-1-0 AEC) on Sunday afternoon at UMBC Soccer Stadium.
The game marks the sixth time the Retrievers have been shutout this year, eclipsing the five games they were blanked last season.
The lone goal of the game came off a corner kick in the 35th minute as Seawolves’ back Kristin Mishrell deflected a pass to midfielder Jackie Timmes, who put the ball into the lower right corner for Stony Brook.
Sophomore goalkeeper Catie Bukowski recorded five saves for the Retrievers in 90:00 of play, while Marisa Viola recorded seven saves in 90:00 for the Seawolves.
The Retrievers outshot the Seawolves in the loss, 14-12, with 10 of those shots occurring in the second half. The Seawolves held a 5-4 advantage on corner kicks over the Retrievers.
