Emmitsburg, Md.-The UMBC women’s soccer team (3-5-1) was shut out by Mount St. Mary’s, 4-0, Thursday afternoon at the Mount St. Mary’s Soccer Field. The Mount improves to 2-5-0 on the season after defeating the Retrievers for the first time ever in 12 meetings. UMBC was blanked for the second time in as many games.

The Mount scored three times in the first 29 minutes against senior goalie Carly Agro, who was making her first career start for UMBC. Mount St. Mary’s Jenn Baker scored twice in a 16-minute span.

Baker gave the Mount an early 1-0 lead when she scored on a header off a Colleen Regan corner kick at the 12:28 mark. Meghan Haspert made it 2-0 about 10 minutes later when she scored from 20 yards out on a rebound of a Karyn Farrar shot. Baker sent the Mount to halftime with a 3-0 advantage when she converted a loose ball in front of the goal at 28:47.

Kelli Devine completed the scoring for the Mount in the 64th minute. Emily Menotti started the play with a long ball to the corner to Candace Masson, who crossed the ball to the middle where Devine redirected it into the net.

Agro allowed three goals and made one save in 28:47 of action before being relieved by sophomore Catie Bukowski, who tallied three saves and allowed one goal in 61:13 in the net. Anna Lebo went the distance for the Mount and recorded four saves en route to her second shutout of the season.

Mount St. Mary’s out-shot UMBC 18-9 in the game, including 11-4 in the first half, but the Retrievers held a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks.

The Retrievers return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they open America East Conference play at New Hampshire.
