Women’s Soccer Heads to Florida for Kick Out Cancer Tournament

On the Hatters: Stetson is 1-5-0 on the season and coming off a 4-0 loss to Florida Atlantic on Sunday. The Hatters have been outscored 12-3 on the season. Jessica Spencer leads the team with three points (1g, 1a). Stetson’s lone victory of the season was a 2-0 triumph over LaSalle on Sept. 3. The Hatters were picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic Sun Conference preseason coaches poll after finishing sixth last season with a 4-6-0 league record and a 9-11-1 overall mark and winning its first-round tournament game. Stetson returns 17 players and 10 starters from the 2005 squad, including all-tournament team members Brittany Jones and April Eilering.

There is also a silent auction on judolphins.com where people can bid on autographed items from Lance Armstrong, Arnold Palmer, NASCAR, NFL and PGA professionals with proceeds benefiting the LAF.

Moving Up the Ranks: With two goals over the weekend, junior forward Jessica Young took sole possession of sixth place all-time at UMBC with 22 career goals scored and is just one behind Kasy Kruger for fifth place. She is also tied with Shannon Bagrosky for seventh on the Retrievers’ list for points with 50. Junior midfielder Amy Morrison is among UMBC’s best in assists, ranking 10th all-time with eight helpers, just one behind former teammate Missy Moore for ninth place.

Beasts in the America East: Junior forward Jessica Young leads the America East in points (9), goals (4) and goals per game (0.67), and she ranks second in points per game (1.60) and is tied for third in shots (15) and sixth in shots per game (2.50). Senior midfielder Mary Hearin is tied for third in the conference in points (6), points per game (1.00) and goals per game (0.50) and is tied for second in goals scored (3), while freshman midfielder Arielle Tagger is tied for sixth in points (5), sixth in goals (2) and points per game (0.83) and 10th in goals per game (0.33). In addition, sophomore goalie Christine Bacinski leads the league in goals-against average (0.50), having allowed just one goal in 180 minutes.
As a team, the Retrievers rank third in the America East in goals (10) and goals per game (1.67), fifth in points (23) and points per game (3.83) and fourth in saves (40), saves per game (6.67) and save percentage (.784).

Goalies Galore: Three goalies have each started at least one game in the net for UMBC, with sophomore Catie Bukowski seeing the most action (4 games, 3 starts, 241:26) and posting a 2.61 goals-against average, allowing seven goals while recording 14 saves. Sophomore Christine Bacinski (3 games, 2 starts, 180:00) leads the bunch with a 0.50 GAA, allowing just one goal while tallying 15 saves. Senior Robin Babaris, a three-year starter before suffering a torn ACL which kept her out of the 2005 season, played 75 minutes against Maryland and the first half against Temple, compiling a 2.25 GAA with 10 saves in 120 minutes.
