Jessica Young Named America East Women’s Soccer Player of the Week

Jessica Young scored five points on the weekend and leads the league in goals.

Boston-Junior forward Jessica Young was named America East Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 10, the conference announced Monday. Young lifted the Retrievers to a 2-0-0 weekend record with two goals and an assist as UMBC defeated Temple, 2-0, on Friday before taking down Radford, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at UMBC Soccer Stadium.

 

Young, scored the insurance goal in a 2-0 win over Temple. Against Radford, the Waldorf, Md., native scored on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute for the Retrievers’ third goal of the game, then notched the assist on the fourth goal just over a minute later.

 

Young totaled five points on the weekend and leads the Retrievers and the America East in points (9), goals (4) and goals per game (0.67). She has scored in four of the last five games. Young also ranks sixth all-time at UMBC with 22 career goals and is tied for seventh with 50 career points.

 

After last weekend’s two wins, the Retrievers are above the .500 mark for the first time this season with a 3-2-1 overall record.

 

Young and the Retrievers return to action this weekend as they head to Jacksonville, Fla., for the Kick Out Cancer Tournament. They will take on Stetson on Friday at 5 p.m. and Jacksonville on Sunday at 2 p.m.
