HEARIN NAMED TO AMERICA EAST WOMEN’S SOCCER ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

11/9/2005

Mary Hearin was selected to the America East Women's Soccer All-Tournament Team after scoring UMBC's only goal of the championships.

Boston, Mass.-UMBC junior back Mary Hearin (North Potomac, Md./Watkins Mill) was selected to the America East All-Tournament Team, the conference announced Saturday.

Hearin scored the sixth-seeded Retrievers’ only goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to No. 3 Binghamton in the quarterfinals of the America East Tournament. Her goal gave UMBC an early 1-0 lead, as she converted a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Amy Morrison in the 19th minute. The goal was Hearin’s first of the season.

The Retrievers finished the season with a 9-9-1 overall record and 3-4-1 conference mark. They advanced to their first America East Championship since 2003, their first season in the league.

Top-seeded Boston University won its third America East crown with a 2-1 double-overtime victory over No. 2 Maine. The Terriers earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
