WOMEN'S SOCCER EDGED, 1-0, BY HOST BOSTON UNIVERSITY, BUT CLINCH SPOT IN AMERICA EAST TOURNAMENT

Boston, MA—The UMBC women’s soccer team fell, 1-0, to host Boston University this afternoon at Nickerson Field, but clinched a spot in next weekend’s America East Tournament when Binghamton edged Hartford, 1-0.
The Terriers gained no worse than a share of the regular season title and will host the quarter and semi-final rounds of the tournament.
The Retrievers (9-7-1, 3-3-1) will either be the #5 seed, where they currently reside in the league standings, or they could slip to sixth with a loss at
UMBC made the America East Tournament in their first league season of 2003, but did not qualify last season.
The Terriers improved to 10-4-4, 6-0-1 with the victory. The hosts scored the lone goal of the game at the 57:55 mark when Lauren Erwin scored an unassisted tally.
The Retrievers managed just a pair of shots and were outshot by the Terriers, 18-2. UMBC freshman netminder Catie Bukowski kept her side in the game with eight saves.
