UMBC’S CATIE BUKOWSKI NAMED AMERICA EAST WOMEN’S SOCCER CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

10/10/2005

Catie Bukowski was named America East Co-Rookie of the Week.

Boston, Mass.-UMBC freshman goalie Catie Bukowski (Odenton, Md./Arundel/South Carolina) was named America East Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday for the week ending Oct. 9. Bukowski earned two shutouts this weekend, totaling six saves in two games.

Bukowski tallied five saves in a 1-0 victory over conference rival Hartford before blanking league foe Albany with one save. She has shut out three consecutive opponents and has allowed only one goal in her last 360:00 to lower her goals against average to 0.93.

Bukowski has four shutouts on the season, and the two wins improved her personal record to 6-2-0. She has totaled 44 saves and allowed only eight goals in 770:18 of play for a .846 save percentage. She is fifth in the conference with 0.44 shutouts per game and sixth in saves per game (4.89) and GAA.

The Retrievers are 9-5-0 overall and tied for third in the America East with a 3-1-0 conference record and nine points. They have won four in a row and eight of their last 10 games after starting the season 1-3, and the nine wins surpass their entire 2004 season total of eight.

Bukowski shares the Rookie of the Week honors with Boston University’s Marisha Schumacher-Hodge, who scored her first collegiate goal in a 1-0 victory over Binghamton Friday night to keep the Terriers undefeated in America East play. Maine’s Marie-Andree Canuel earned the conference Player of the Week nod after scoring four goals on the weekend, including a hat trick against Stony Brook.

Bukowski and the Retrievers return to action Thursday, Oct. 13, when they travel to America East foe Binghamton (7-6-2, 3-2-0 America East) at 1 p.m. The Bearcats are tied with the Retrievers for third place in the conference with nine points.
