Freshman Catie Bukowski recorded 10 saves in her first start.

Baltimore, Md.-The UMBC women’s soccer team (3-4-0) lost to local rival Loyola, 2-0, Friday afternoon. The Greyhounds (4-3-0), ranked sixth in the Mid-Atlantic region, out-shot the Retrievers, 28-5, and got two goals from senior forward Ali Andrzejewski to secure the shutout.

Making her first start in only her second game action, freshman goalie Catie Bukowski (Odenton, Md./Arundel/South Carolina) kept the Retrievers in the contest, recording 10 saves in 90 minutes.

Andrzejewski scored her first goal at the 13:35 mark on a clear shot from the left side into the right corner of the net. The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead into halftime and did not score again until the 64:08 mark, when Andrzejewski took a pass from teammate Carolyn Kennington and shot it over Bukowski’s head. Despite playing short for most of the second half after Lisa Jaffa received her second yellow card of the game, Loyola held on to the 2-0 lead for the victory.

The Greyhounds held a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks. Loyola goalie Amanda Piccirilli tallied four saves.

The Retrievers return to action Sunday, Sept. 18, when they travel to Lawrenceville, N.J., to take on Rider at 1 p.m.
