WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS SHORT IN NEC FINAL, 1-0
Loretto, PA--Looking to continue their 12-game unbeaten streak in today's Northeast Conference final against fourth-seeded Sacred Heart, the second-seeded Retriever women's soccer team came up short, 1-0. The loss ends UMBC's season and propels the Pioneers into the NCAA Tournament.The lone goal of the contest was scored at the 36:01 mark when SHU's Nathallie Urbas deflected the ball into the net after it had bounced off the foot of UMBC junior defender Staci Grider.UMBC dominated play throughout the game, including outshooting the Pioneers by a 14-9 margin. SHU goalkeeper Leslie Konsig, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, made nine saves while Retriever goalie Becky Hicock stopped two shots. Overall, UMBC finishes with a record of 11-6-2 and 9-3 in the NEC.
