WOMEN’S SOCCER CHOSEN SEVENTH IN AMERICA EAST COACHES’ POLL

The UMBC women’s soccer team has been chosen to finish seventh in the America East, according to the 2004 Coaches’ Preseason Poll. The Retrievers, who capped off the 2003 season with a 7-8-1 overall record, received 36 points.

Defending America East champion Boston University was the unanimous choice to win the conference, as they received all nine possible first-place votes and 81 total points. Maine came in second with 67, followed by New Hampshire (65), Hartford (54), and Northeastern (51). Stony Brook edged out UMBC for fifth with 37 points, and Binghamton, Vermont, and Albany came in eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively.

In 2003, UMBC was chosen to finish ninth, but surprised their new league by ending the season with a 4-4-1 conference record and securing the sixth spot for a chance to play in the America East Tournament. This year, they look to contend once more behind All-Conference goalkeeper Robin Babaris, All-Conference back Mary Hearin, and All-Rookie forward Amanda DiCarlo.
