FRESHMEN SCORE THREE GOALS IN WOMEN'S SOCCER'S 3-0 TRIUMPH AT ALBANY
Albany, NY—Freshman Elizabeth Day scored her first collegiate goal early in the first half and classmate Amanda DiCarlo added a pair of second half scores as the UMBC women’s soccer team (3-5, 1-3) won its third straight game, a 3-0 triumph over Albany (1-11-1, 0-3) in an America East match-up.
Day tapped in the game-winning goal at after senior back Carolyn Patton’s initial shot hit the crossbar. DiCarlo, who did not start the contest, collected her first two collegiate goals during the midway stages of the second half. She headed in a Kelly Fiorani cross at the 57:02 mark, then converted a feed from senior fullback Kristin English at 73:57.
UMBC dominated the shot totals, outshooting the Great Danes, 26-6 as DiCarlo had eight shots to lead the way. A pair of UMBC netminder combined on the shutout as Robin Babaris (3 saves, 80 minutes) and Kelly Lizon (0 saves, 10 minutes) gave UMBC its second straight shutout.
