Sarah Sample joined the Retriever staff as a volunteer assistant coach in August 2008.
Sample was a four-year starter at George Washington University and the University of Maryland. She played her first two seasons at George Washington, earning Atlantic-10 All-Rookie Team honors in 2003 and All-Conference First Team accolades in 2004, when she led the Colonials with six goals and 14 points.
Sample transferred to Maryland before her junior season and led the Terps with four assists as a senior. She finished her collegiate career with 12 goals, 10 assists and 34 points.
Sample has also played in the W-League – the highest professional women’s soccer league in the United States – since 2004. She was a member of the Washington Freedom for three years and played for the Ottawa Fury this summer. Her coaching experience includes the Bethesda Soccer Club and University of Maryland Soccer Camps.
The native of Annapolis, Md., and former standout at St. Mary’s High School graduated from Maryland in December 2007 with degrees in criminal justice and women’s studies.
