Mike Barroqueiro begins his first season as assistant women's soccer coach at UMBC. Barroqueiro is the former assistant coach and director of women’s soccer operations at Rutgers University.

 

As one of the youngest directors of a Division-I program, Barroqueiro guided the Scarlet Knights to the 2005 Big East Conference quarterfinals, and he helped recruit the second-ranked 2006 recruiting class in the Big East and 16th-ranked class in the nation according to SoccerBuzz.com.

 

Barroqueiro has also served as head coach of the Rutgers women’s club soccer team since 2003. He led the squad to the regional tournament semifinals in 2003 and finals in 2004, and last year to the NIRSA National Tournament for the first time in program history. The team, which was ranked 32nd in the region prior to his tenure, rose to 12th in the nation within his three years.

 

A native of Old Bridge, N.J., Barroqueiro received a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and sociology from Rutgers in January 2006.

 

Barroqueiro and first-year head coach Koleski inherit a senior-laden Retriever program which finished last season 9-9-1 and sixth in the America East Conference.
