CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC women's soccer's freshman forward Virginia Moyer (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) earned her first America East Rookie of the Week honor, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Moyer scored her first-collegiate goal, the game-winner, on Sunday against Hartford, helping the Retrievers to hand the Hawks their first conference loss of the season in a 1-0 victory. The goal came on the rookie's only shot of the weekend, completing a 2-0 week in conference action for UMBC.
The Elizabethtown, Pa., native is the 11th Retriever to score a goal on the year, bringing her season total to three points.
Moyer earns the third America East Rookie of the Week honor for the Retrievers, the two others going to freshman forward Lisa Nanov (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley).
Team Notes From the Week
-UMBC posted its eighth 10-win season and its second 10-win season under third-year head coach Leslie Wray. The Retrievers are unbeaten in their last five matchups, including three straight victories.
-Senior midfielder Jessy Brown moves into a tie for third on UMBC's all-time games played list (73). She also moved into a tie for ninth on the Retrievers' all-time assists list following a three-point effort versus UMass Lowell on Thursday.
-UMBC freshman forward Lisa Nanov was named in the Top-100 of Division I Freshmen in 2014 by Top Drawer Soccer, coming in at 83.
On the Horizon
-UMBC continues road action on Thursday, Oct. 23 when it travels to Albany to take on the Great Danes. The two are currently tied in the America East standings for second-place with 11 points, behind only Hartford (13 points).
