Women’s Soccer Hosts Albany on Alumni Day

BALTIMORE – UMBC women's soccer returns home from its three game road trip to host Albany on Sunday, Oct. 6, as the black and gold celebrates Alumni Day at Retriever Soccer Park. Game time is set for 1 p.m., with all the live action available on www.UMBCRetrievers.com.

UMBC (6-4-2, 1-1-0 AE) picked up its first America East victory since Sept. 26, 2010 on Thursday night at Bearcats Sports Complex. Sophomore forward Alexa Quaranta (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) tallied her first collegiate game-winning goal in the 1-0 double overtime victory at Binghamton.

The Retrievers have registered 13 goals on the year, their most in a season since 2010, with Quaranta and red-shirt junior Jessy Brown (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) heading the way with three scores apiece.

Goalkeeper Lauren Kadet (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) added five stops to her career total on Thursday against Binghamton. The senior has seen all 1144 minutes of action in net for the Retrievers this season.

Albany (1-9-1, 0-1-1 AE) is winless in America East action, dropping its league opener to Hartford, 3-1, and following with a 1-1 double overtime tie at New Hampshire on Thursday. Freshman back Alexa Schneider gave the Great Danes a 1-0 advantage in the opening period, but the Wildcats were able to knot the score at one 1:33 later.

UAlbany is being outscored, 33-9, thus far in 2013 and have 117 less shots than its opponents. Schneider is the only Great Dane to have recorded more than one goal on the season. The rookie leads the team with three scores and six points. Freshman Helena Olafsdottir and junior Stephanie Nelle have chipped in four points apiece for Albany.  

Sophomore goalkeeper Alana Brennan leads the way in net, registering six starts and a team-best 41 saves, including 12 stops in Thursday's tie. Brennan sits atop of the conference in saves per game (6.83).

-After 10 all-time meetings, UMBC and Albany have each won five apiece. The Great Danes have won the last four matchups versus the Retrievers.
