Cross-Town Rivals UMBC and Loyola (Md.) Meet in Women’s Soccer on Tuesday

BALTIMORE – UMBC women's soccer travels to cross-town rival Loyola (Md.) on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in a battle of the dogs. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Ridley Athletic Complex, with live video and stats available.

The Retrievers (2-2-1) are coming off a 2-1 victory on Friday night against Robert Morris, UMBC's first home victory in over two years. Sophomores Amira Walcott (Beltsville, Md./Eleanor Roosevely) and Alexa Quaranta (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) helped the Retrievers hand the Colonials their first loss of the season. Walcott assisted the game's opening goal, a score from Quaranta, and went on to register her first collegiate goal, the eventual game-winner to help lead UMBC to victory.

Junior forward Lilly Rydon (Stirling, South Australia/Concordia College) added her second assist of the season on Friday night, helping to set up Quaranta's goal in the 58th minute. She leads the team with four points on the season, ranking sixth in the America East.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Kadet (Oakville, Ontario) has seen all the action in net for the Retrievers on the season. She is allowing 1.15 goals per game through the first five games and has tallied 18 saves and one shutout. She remains 13 stops shy of becoming the program's all-time leader in saves.

After opening the season with a 2-1 victory against Towson, Loyola has dropped two straight overtime contests to fall to 1-2 on the year. In its latest matchup, the Greyhounds fell to Delaware, 2-1, and were outshot 20-6 by the Blue Hens. Freshman back Nicole Wahlig recorded her first collegiate goal for Loyola's only score of the night.

Three different Greyhounds have scored thus far in 2013. Redshirt senior forward Katelyn McFadden holds the squad's only game-winner and has registered a team-best three points on a goal and an assist.

Senior goalkeeper Didi Haracic made her first appearance of the season versus Delaware, recording 10 saves on the night. Junior netminder Colleen Folan saw all the action between the pipes in the first two games of the season, surrendering two goals and making nine stops.

All-Time Series
-UMBC and Loyola meet for the first time since Sept. 22, 2010, a 2-1 overtime loss for the Retrievers.
-The Retrievers are 3-4-2 all-time against Loyola, but are winless in their last five meetings.
-UMBC's last victory versus the Greyhounds came on Sept. 28, 1994.
-All three of the Retrievers' victories in the series have come on their home field.

Dawg Notes
-UMBC's second win of the season, helped the Retrievers surpass its win total from the last two seasons combined (2012 1-11-5, 2011 0-14-3). A win on Tuesday would mark the most wins for the Retrievers in a season since 2008 (3-16-0).
-Goalkeeper Lauren Kadet is 13 saves away from becoming the squad's all-time leader. She looks to surpass Nadine Henchcliffe (1993-95), who amassed 339 saves in her career.
