Video Highlights

VESTAL, N.Y. – UMBC sophomore forward Alexa Quaranta's (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) goal in the 107th minute helped the Retrievers to a 1-0 win, their first America East victory since Sept. 26, 2010, in Thursday night's women's soccer game at Bearcats Sports Complex.

Quaranta's score was her third of the season, tying for a team best, and the first game-winner of her career.

UMBC earns its first win versus Binghamton in 12 tries and moves to 6-4-2 overall and 1-1-0 in America East play, while Binghamton falls to 5-4-2 on the season and 0-1-1 in league action.

UMBC saw the best opportunity of the opening half, as Quaranta sent a turnaround shot toward the far right side of the net in the 27th minute, but BU's goalkeeper Carrie Martin came up with one of three saves in the first period to keep the games scoreless at the break.

After a scoreless 90 minutes, Binghamton continued to the place the pressure on UMBC senior goalkeeper Lauren Kadet (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas), tallying four of its 15 shots in the contest during the overtime periods. Kadet, the Retrievers all-time leader in saves, finished with five stops in the game.

Freshman forward Amanda Dailey (Howell, N.J./Freehold Township/Monmouth) started the second overtime with UMBC's first shot in the overtime periods with 106:30 on the clock. Quaranta's goal came 17 seconds later, one of three shots placed on goal by the sophomore in the contest, beating goalkeeper Gaby Gold from close range.

UMBC returns home for America East action on Sunday, Oct. 6 when it hosts Albany for Alumni Day. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Retriever Soccer Park, with all UMBC women's soccer alumni receiving free admission.
