CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—UMBC freshman forward Amy Savage (Ottawa, Ontario/Sir Wilfrid Laurier) was named America East Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sept. 12, the conference announced Monday.

Savage tallied her first career goal early in the second half to give the Retrievers a 1-0 lead against Delaware at the time. Late in the 51st minute, she collected a pass, surged past the Blue Hen defense and chipped the ball over the charging goalkeeper for the score. The America East Player of the Game, Savage took a team-high three shots against Delaware.

Savage leads the Retrievers with four points on the season and is tied for the league lead with a pair of assists. She is UMBC's first women's soccer Rookie of the Week since Danielle Kell on Sept. 28, 2008.

This marks the first time that two Retrievers have been honored with America East weekly women's soccer awards in the same year since 2007, as senior midfielder Sandra Vacarino (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) was tabbed the conference's Player of the Week on Aug. 30.

The Retrievers return to action on Wednesday, when they host George Mason at 4 p.m.
