Kadet, Savage Selected to America East All-Rookie Team
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—UMBC freshman goalkeeper Lauren Kadet (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) and forward Amy Savage (Ottawa, Ontario/Sir Wilfrid Laurier) were named to the America East All-Rookie Team, the conference announced Wednesday.
Kadet leads the America East with 6.75 saves per game and ranks fourth with an .806 save percentage. Her 108 saves in 2010 rank as the fifth-highest single-season total in school history. Kadet was named America East Rookie of the Week on Sept. 27 after recording her first career shutout at Vermont a day earlier, the first clean slate by a Retriever rookie since Catie Bukowski blanked Albany on Oct. 9, 2005. Kadet started the last 16 games of the season and played 1,461 consecutive minutes.
Savage tied for the team lead with six points on two goals and two assists in her inaugural collegiate campaign, and she ranked second on the team with 26 shots. Savage was named America East Rookie of the Week on Sept. 13 after tallying her first career goal early in the second half against Delaware on Sept. 8. She was one of four Retriever freshmen to start at least 15 of UMBC's 17 games on the season.
Boston University's Kelly King was tabbed America East Rookie of the Year.
Other award winners included Striker of the Year Jessica Luscinski, Midfielder of the Year Shauna Kelleher, Defender of the Year Corie Halasz and Goalkeeper of the Year Alice Binns, all from Boston University. Terrier head coach Nancy Feldman and her staff also took home Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding the Terriers to an undefeated America East season.
