Women’s Lacrosse Hits the Road to Take on La Salle

BALTIMORE – The UMBC women's lacrosse team looks to build off its dramatic 11-10 double-overtime victory on Saturday, March 1 when it travels to La Salle for its first-ever meeting with the Explorers. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.

The Retrievers (1-2) picked up their first victory of the season in dramatic fashion last Saturday, taking American into double-overtime before a goal from freshman attack Mackenzie Reese (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) propelled UMBC to the 11-10 victory. The Retrievers spread out their scoring in the contest, with seven different players registering a goal, led by junior Alyssa Semones' (Westminster, Md./Westminster/Penn State) hat trick.

Junior Abby Wilson (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) leads the squad with four goals and two assists on the season, while senior Kristen Bilney (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) has also chipped in four goals. Semones has done a little bit of everything for the Retrievers thus far, registering three goals on six shots and adding seven draw controls and five ground balls.

La Salle (3-0) is coming off a busy opening week of action, which was topped off with a 14-8 victory at Central Connecticut State last Saturday. Junior Claire Andrews and freshman Gabby Antonelli earned Atlantic 10 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Andrews has a team-best 11 points on the year, on seven goals and four assists, while Antonelli is holding opponents to 5.67 scores per game and has made 24 saves through three games.
