Women’s Lacrosse Senior Alicia Krause Voted UMBC Athlete of the Month for April

BALTIMORE – Senior midfielder Alicia Krause (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron/Duquesne) of the women's lacrosse team was named UMBC's Athlete of the Month for April 2012 in a poll conducted from May 12-21.  Krause earned 54% of the vote, to win the vote over track and field's Mercedes Jackson(Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown), tennis' Joe Adewumi (Phoenix, Ariz./North Canyon), baseball's Brian Klukowicz (Clifton, N.J./St. Peter's Prep), men's lacrosse's Scott Jones (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox) and softball's Taylor Hall (Cosby, Va./Cosby). 

During the month of April, Krause helped lead the Retrievers to 4-2 record, picking up wins over two ranked opponents, No. 13 Albany and No. 19 Johns Hopkins.  In the win over the Blue Jays at Homewood Field on 25, the senior scored four goals to help UMBC overcome an early two-goal deficit. 

In addition, in a win over America East rival Vermont on Apr. 14, Krause tallied seven points (2 G, 5 A) and scored her 100th career goal as the Retrievers rolled to a 19-11 victory. 

For the season, Krause led the Retrievers with 18 assists while finishing second in goals (31) and points (49), just behind teammate Lindsay Cox.  She was also an asset in the midfield, picking up a team-high 26 ground balls.
