Women's Lacrosse Faces Critical America East Battle at Binghamton on Saturday
The UMBC women's lacrosse team (4-7, 1-2 America East) heads back to New York and will face America East rival Binghamton (3-7, 0-3) at the Bearcats Sports Complex on Sat., April 7. The opening draw is set for noon in Vestal, N.Y.
SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS
After knocking off 13th-ranked Albany on March 24, UMBC has dropped two straight, losing a heartbreaking 12-11 decision to Boston University on March 31 and falling, 16-6, at Stony Brook on April 4.
Stony Brook broke open a tight game with a 5-1 run to open the second half and tacked on five late goals to defeat UMBC, 16-6, at La Valle Stadium. Junior midfielder Lindsay Cox led the visitors with two goals and one assist and sophomore midfielder Taeler Errington had a pair of goals.
Cox leads the Retrievers with 28 goals and 35 total points. She had a brilliant month of March, amassing 24 points in seven games. Senior midfielder Alicia Krause has 18 goals in 2012 and needs three more to score 100 goals in her collegiate career.
UMBC is +11 in goals scored in the first half this season, but a -21 in the second half.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Binghamton women's lacrosse team dropped its third straight America East contest to reigning conference champion Albany 10-3, Wednesday afternoon at John Fallon Field. The Bearcats were unable to generate any offense, managing just three second-half shots against a stingy Great defense that forced BU into 17 turnovers.
Junior attacker Kimberly McGeever leads the Bearcats with 39 points, including a team-high 23 assists. Senior attacker Lis Zuern is the leading goal-scorer with 23. Binghamton is permitting 14.2 goals per game. The team's last win occurred vs. Colgate, a squad they handled, 16-11- UMBC also defeated the Raiders, but by a 13-11 margin.
INSIDE THE SERIES
UMBC has won all eight series meetings with Binghamton, four at home and four in Vestal, N.Y. The Retrievers edged the Bearcats, 9-8, at UMBC Stadium last season. Krause had two goals and one assist in the tightly-played contest.
UMBC returns home and will face Vermont on Sat., April 14. The opening draw is set for noon.
