BALTIMORE—Incoming women's lacrosse freshman Alyssa Blevins (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) has been selected to play in the prestigious Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic, Under Armour, Inc. and Corrigan Sports Enterprises, Inc. announced last month.
The sixth annual game will take place on Saturday, July 2, at Johnny Unitas Stadium on the campus of Towson University. Blevins, who signed a National Letter of Intent to attend UMBC last fall, is one of 44 seniors nationwide chosen to compete in the contest.
Blevins, a defender at C. Milton Wright High School in Bel Air, Md., earned a spot on the South squad despite missing half of the 2011 season while recovering from an injury. Last year, ESPN Rise ranked her as the No. 20 player in the nation, including the fifth-best defender.
Earlier this year, Blevins was named to the under-19 U.S. National Team, which will compete at the 2011 Federation of International Lacrosse U19 World Championship this summer in Germany.
"Along with Alyssa being a great player, she is also a fantastic kid coming from great high school and club programs," head coach Kelly Berger said. "We have watched her grow over the years, and it's an honor to have her represent UMBC during her U.S. play and at the All-America game. We look forward to having her on campus this fall as we strive to return to the conference championship."
Blevins is the first incoming Retriever freshman to be named to the Under Armour All-America Team in the six years of its existence. Rising senior midfielder Alicia Krause, who spent her freshman year at Duquesne before transferring to UMBC, was selected for the game in 2008.
