BALTIMORE—Incoming women’s lacrosse freshman Alyssa Blevins (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) has been selected to play in the prestigious Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic, Under Armour, Inc. and Corrigan Sports Enterprises, Inc. announced last month.

ALBANY, N.Y.—The third-seeded UMBC women’s lacrosse team (11-6) scored six of the final game’s final seven goals, including the game-winner by junior attack Emily Coady (Westminster, Md./Westminster) just 20 seconds into overtime, to rally from a four-goal deficit and defeat defending America East champion and second-seeded Boston University (8-9) by a score of 12-11 Thursday afternoon in the America East semifinals.

ALBANY, N.Y.—Three Retrievers notched hat tricks, but the UMBC women’s lacrosse team (10-6, 4-2 AE) came up just short in a 12-11 loss to eighth-ranked Albany (15-0, 5-0 AE) Saturday afternoon at John Fallon Field. The Great Danes locked up the America East regular-season title outright and will host next week’s America East Championship, while the Retrievers earned the No. 3 seed.

It was the Retrievers’ first win over their cross-town rival since 2002, snapping a streak of six straight losses to the Tigers.

Women’s Lacrosse Standout Amanda Pappas Voted UMBC Athlete of the Month for May
BALTIMORE—Senior midfielder Amanda Pappas of the women’s lacrosse team was named UMBC’s Athlete of the Month for May 2011 in a poll of fans conducted from May 31-June 6. Pappas received 258 of 360 total votes (71.7 percent) to outdistance herself from runner-up Katie Ferguson (44 votes, 12.2 percent). Michael Christmas and Amanda Deller of track and field and D.J. Ream of baseball were also nominated.
