WOMEN’S LACROSSE DEFEATS LONG ISLAND, 20-4

    Baltimore, MD – UMBC defeated Northeast Conference opponent Long Island in the final regular season game by a score of 20-4 on Senior Day afternoon at UMBC Stadium. With the victory, the Retrievers evened out their record at 8-8 and improved to 7-1 in league play, while Long Island fell to 2-9 overall and 2-6 in the NEC.

    UMBC dominated the match as they built an early 8-0 lead just fourteen minutes into the game. During that time frame, senior Stephanie Allen led the Retrievers with a "hat-trick." LIU’s lone first half goal came at 17:39 from sophomore Nichole Lopez, and came away trailing 11-1 at halftime.

    In the second period, UMBC continued its attack, scoring four goals in the first six minutes. Seven different Retrievers would score in the half to give UMBC the 20-4 victory.

    For the game, the Retrievers were led by Allen, who had five goals and an assist on her final career home game. Senior Lauren Traber, junior Jen Dragoni, and freshman Kelly Fiorani each added three goals. Senior netminder Courtney Stringer played all 60 minutes, allowing four goals while stopping four shots.

    UMBC advances to the NEC Tournament set to begin on Thursday, May 1 at Sacred Heart University.
