WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO LOYOLA, 16-4
BALTIMORE, MD – Junior Rachel Shuck led the Loyola College (1-0) women's lacrosse team to a 16-4 victory over local rival UMBC (0-2) at Curley Field Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore Talia Shacklock gave Loyola a quick 2-0 lead with her two goals in the first four minutes of play before the Retreivers got on the board on an unassisted goal from Jen Dragoni at 7:08 into the game. Shuck would tally her first goal, less than a minute later and the Greyhounds would go on a 7-0 run before UMBC got on the board again.
Lauren Traber added an goal on an assist from Dragoni at 25:58 before Dragoni would add her second unassisted goal of the day at 26:38 and kelly Fiorani added the final Retrievers score, assisted by Dragoni.
The Greyhounds held UMBC scoreless in the second and went on to score six insurance goals for the win. Shuck added three of her team-high four goals in the second half.
Shacklock finished the game with three goals for Loyola while Susan Tyrrell came off the bench to score two goals and add an assist.
Loyola's goalkeepers' Kim Lawton and Cindy Nicolaus split time with Lawton earning the start. Lawton made six saves and Nicolaus stopped four shots.
Retriever's keeper Courtney Stringer made eight saves.
UMBC will host Old Dominion on Saturday, 12 p.m. at the UMBC Stadium.
