Emily Coady scored her 100th career goal vs. AU.

BALTIMORE- UMBC junior midfielder Lindsay Cox (High Bridge, N.J.) tallied four goals and senior attacker Emily Coady (Westminster, Md./Westminster) scored her 100^th career goal as the host Retrievers edged American, 13-11, in a non-conference contest played in ideal conditions at UMBC Stadium.

Freshman Abby Wilson (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) added a hat trick for UMBC. Coady and sophomore midfielder Kristen Bilney (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) scored twice for the Retrievers, while senior midfielder Alicia Krause (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) recorded three assists.

UMBC won its season-high third consecutive game and evened its overall record at 7-7 on the season, while American lost its third straight and slipped to 7-8.

Coady, Krause and senior defenders Jessica Harkey (Purcellville, Va) and Lauren Mundell (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) were honored before the game as they competed for the final time at UMBC Stadium.

Junior midfielder and Catonsville native Emily Burton led American with three goals and an assist.

Cox scored two quick goals and UMBC led, 3-1, 5:12 into the game before the visitors went on a 4-0 surge and took  5-3 lead on Burton’s free position score with 10:05 left into the first half. But Bilney responded with back-to-back goals to knot the game and Wilson gave the hosts a lead they would not relinquish by coming from behind the goal to score with 1:02 to play in the first half.

Leading 6-5 at the half, the Retrievers continued their run and extended it to seven consecutive goals to take a 10-5 advantage on Coady’s 100^th score with 22:56 remaining.

But American dominated the draws over the next ten minutes and put together a 5-1 run to get within 11-10 on an Emily Stankiewicz score with 10:45 to play in regulation. But Cox drew a foul and scored on a free position shot with 7:41 remaining and posted her 37^th goal of the year on a left-handed drive and score from the center of the field at the 3:56 mark.

Trailing 13-10, American pressure UMBC, put could not finish until Burton finalized the scoring with only six seconds remaining.

American outshot UMBC, 25-24, but Retriever freshman Anna Barnett improved to 4-2 on the season as they turned away eight shots in 60 minutes of work. AU netminder senior Kask Komosinski recorded three stops for the Eagles.

UMBC defeated American for the eighth consecutive time and took a 13-2 lead in the series.

The Retrievers get back to America East action on Saturday when they travel to take on New Hampshire.
